Ages 5–8: Little Skies

Feelings, explained for little kids.

Simple, friendly explanations of feelings, worries, and calming down for kids ages 5 to 8. These are great to read together with a grown-up.

What are feelings?

Feelings are little signals inside your body that tell you something — like happy, mad, scared, or excited. Everyone has all kinds of feelings, and that's completely normal.

Everybody worries sometimes

Worrying is your brain trying to keep you safe. Even grown-ups worry! If worries feel too big, it helps to tell a grown-up you trust.

What is calm-down time?

Calm-down time is a few minutes to breathe slowly and let big feelings get smaller. It's not a punishment — it's a tool, like a superhero recharge.

Feelings aren't good or bad

There's no such thing as a 'bad' feeling. Mad, sad, and scared are all okay to feel — it's what we do with them that matters.
